Anticipated beverage trends Summer 23/24

IDL is a beverage manufacturing company based in Australia that contract creates and packages a number of beverages for clients across the globe. We share our insights and predictions into the beverage trends we expect to see during Summer 2023/24. Check out what we anticipate to be on the liquor shelves shortly.

Shochu

Shochu is a traditional Japanese spirit that has risen in popularity in recent years. We anticipate that there will be a number of competitors to popular shochu-based ready-to-drink canned beverages this summer. One of the large appeals with shochu is that it falls under a beer tax due to the way the spirit is created – typically fermented from rice. As a result, the beverage is subject to beer tax as opposed to excise which is much higher. Other spirits like vodka, gin and whiskey all attract the higher excise tax. The government imposed taxes on shochu make it more accessible for consumers. Whilst many ready-to-drink beverages on the market that have a shochu base are mixed with lemon flavours, we anticipate other flavours will be incorporated and launched during summer.

Hard Iced Tea

Another bustling trend this summer is anticipated to be Hard Iced Teas. Essentially, this is simply an alcoholic version of iced tea.The growth of hard iced teas can be linked to the growing demand for ‘Better For You’ beverages. The wide range of flavours available for this particular beverage as well as the various niche offerings have made it an attractive beverage for younger consumers.

Frozen drinks

With a hot summer predicted in Australia for Summer 23/24, we expect to see frozen beverages increase in demand at on-premise venues. Frozen beverages are difficult to make, store and maintain in stores, so the trend is more likely to be experienced via on-premise venues, and through beverages enjoyed at home.

Herbs & tonics

Linking once again to the ‘Better For You’ category, we anticipate an increase in the popularity of beverages spiked with various herbs and tonics. Elderflower has drastically increased in popularity over recent years and will be a hit this summer with the extra heat. The use of natural floral flavours, and refreshing tonics will be a hit this summer.
