Beverage Canning Equipment: Do’s and Don’ts

Considering an investment in Beverage Canning Equipment to turn your craft beverage production into a mainstream product? As a result of running our own, large scale beverage canning facility, we are happy to share with you a few tips and tricks to make canning ready-to-drink beverages as seamless as possible.

Tip #1 - Minimise Dissolved Oxygen

It is important to minimise the amount of dissolved oxygen (DO) that enters the can. Dissolved oxygen can cause changes in a beverage’s aroma, taste, colour and nutritional value if it’s too high. It can also cause issues with the seam of the can lid and lead to leaking cans.

Tip #2 - Correctly Seam

The second important tip is to ensure that the seam is generated correctly between the base can and the lid. Seaming these correctly is imperative to ensure cans don’t leak over time and ensure the viability of the product.

The ready-to-drink beverage canning equipment at Idyll Wine Co uses Velcorin ® dosing which is a process to deactivate enzymes making products suitable for consumption. Ensuring that the ready-to-drink beverage canning equipment is correctly Velcorin ® dosing the products is important element for producing a quality canned beverage product.

Tip #3 - Watch for overfill

There is also a danger with overfilling cans. Whilst 2ml of additional liquid may sound insignificant, overfilling can impact the seam of the can and lead to leaking cans as they expand and contract depending on the environment they’re in.

Tip #4 Invest in quality Beverage Canning Equipment

Our biggest piece of advice is to invest in quality ready-to-drink beverage canning equipment. Quality equipment does come with a price tag but it is worth the investment. Quality equipment is more reliable and consistent at seaming cans, Velcorin® dosing, filling to correct heights and rejecting low fill cans. All these stages are vital to uphold the brand image of the product you’re creating.
