2020 Reflections and Looking Ahead to 2021

For most businesses in Australia (and beyond!), 2020 presented a new suite of challenges and opportunities. As we get set to embark upon Vintage 2021, we’re reflecting on the year that was, and looking ahead to what 2021 has in store at Idyll Wine Co.

In 2020, our hearts went out to the regions and growers who were sadly impacted by the devastating bushfires. Other grape growing regions experienced heavy rainfall. Nonetheless, we were able to persevere with Vintage 2020, crushing over 13 thousand tonnes of fruit and processing 800 cubic meters of marc for our community compost program. In 2020 we produced 23 million bottles and 10 million cans.

The impacts of Covid saw us adapt and adjust to new ways of working – we loved seeing our team step up to the challenge and our customer relationships continue to strengthen. Touched by the continued support of our loyal Cellar Door patrons and determined for everyone to be able to enjoy great quality Australian wine after a long year, we threw the doors open for one Saturday only and held our first ever Cellar Door Sale. Our team welcomed hundreds of customers to snap up exclusive Cellar Door deals (If you missed out, come and visit us another time - we’ve got great value at our Cellar Door all year round).

In preparation for Vintage 2021, we have welcomed a fourth winemaker, Mark Keogh, to our winemaking team. Mark joins Whites Winemaker Blair, Red Winemaker Will and Senior Winemaker Toby to form our Winemaking team, alongside our 28-strong cellar hand crew. Sourcing from our growing network across the Murray Darling and other various regions, we intend to crush over 10 thousand tonnes of grapes this season.

We have an exciting suite of new products in store for release this year across our wine, cider, brewing and RTD portfolios. Our second canning line has been installed, arming us with the capability to produce 20 million cans in 2021. Our sustainability efforts continue with a number of exciting initiatives landing this year, while continuing to deliver on our existing commitments.

We are also recruiting for a number of roles across our various departments. Learn more about working at Idyll Wine Co here.
