Four Wine Bottle Packaging Ideas for 2022
Bottling wines in a traditional 750ml bottle is a standard wine packaging format around the world, but if you want to stand out, or do something a little different, there is an array of wine packaging options to enable this to happen. Innovation and new technology have led to our Liquor Store shelves being filled with various unique wine packaging formats.
Cans:
Wine in a can. At first, many thought this was a strange concept, but now wine in a can is an incredibly popular wine packaging format. Whether you’re heading to a local picnic, a festival with friends, a day on the green live concerts or simply only want one glass, wine in a can is the perfect solution. Most cans are 250ml in size, which is normally between 1-2 standard drinks, with the added convenience of knowing exactly how many standards you’re drinking every time. Cans are also more recyclable than bottles are, as some glass colours are unable to be melted down and reused.
Cask:
Did you know Australia invented cask wine? Cask wine is a wine packaging format that comes in a plastic bladder and then a box, and is usually around 1.5-2 litres per cask. Cask wine typically appeals to a younger demographic as the price point appeals to them, but are also a perfect solution if carrying around glass bottles isn’t desired.
Bottle:
Whilst glass bottles are pretty standard for wine packaging and have been for years, there has been an introduction of new bottles sizes on the market. Smaller size bottles – referred to as miniatures, are single-serving bottles that are typically around 200ml. There are also ‘half bottles’ which are around 375ml. These wine packaging bottles enable for minimal leftovers and minimise wastage of product.
Kegs:
Whilst it wouldn’t work for most home setups, wine in a keg is a wine packaging format that is slowly gathering momentum. Wine kegs would work in bars as they are already set up to cope with these, and it means that bottles aren’t open with product wasted if a full bottle isn’t consumed by customers in a single day. Similar to cans, the growth of wine kegs can also be linked to sustainability initiatives.
